Capturing the Beauty of Valdez

No matter how long I live in Alaska, I am never over how beautiful it is. Valdez is known as Alaska's best kept secret. I cannot count how many waterfalls are within a 5 minute drive of my house. They are everywhere. There are so many wild flowers here that brides come here to get married and don't use a florist. They just pick flowers and show up to the wedding!!
The best time of year in my opinion is July. There are fireweed everywhere!!! And this session had the best fireweed at the Old Town location.

Some people don't know that our town actually used to be located at a different site than it is now. In 1964 there was an earthquake that caused a landslide in the bay. The landslide caused a tsunami that demolished the town demolished the docks, ruined water and sewage systems and killed 31 people. The town site was built on silt, which cause buildings to sink below the tide. Over the next two years the remaining buildings were moved to a new town site with a bedrock foundation.
Now that I've lived in Valdez for over 10 years, I can see why the original settlers of Valdez used this spot to build. It has the most beautiful views! From August until October it is my favorite location to shoot at.
I hope you like these photos!!!
Thank you for letting me capture the naturally beautiful you!
